Let's just face the facts - everyone will not always agree with every decision you make - that's just life. You will eventually have to come to grips with it and be comfortable with not sacrificing your happiness for others. Yes, there are times when we put ourselves on the back burner for others, but at what point do you stop and say, "I matter." We all have an assignment and purpose in this life and in order to accomplish it successfully, some people may not be able to take the journey with you. As hurtful as that may be, it's the truth.
